Movies portraying lost child from family along with separation and mishaps is not a new concept, but the 2016 biopic based on the life of Saroo Brierly is something that has been leaving people to dumbfound and awestruck. The movie has been based on the nonfiction book that was penned down by Saroo Brierly and Larry Buttrose. The casting of the movie was something that stole people’s hearts especially the child actor, Sunny Pawar who portrayed the character of the younger Saroo Brierly. If you are not familiar with the nonfiction novel, the movie is definitely a different genre for you, but the audience who have read the book truly applauded the screenplay and the picturization of the movie based on the book.
The story behind the movie is based on the real life happenings in the life of Saroo Brierly who was raised in a small locality known as Ganesh Talai located in India till the age of five after which due to some mishaps and misconceptions he was separated from his family along with his younger brother, Guddu. The movie reels through the life of the two struggling youngsters and how they struggled through the way to just navigate their way back to their family.

In hopes of somehow getting back to his family after getting separated, Saroo boarded a train along with his brother which was yet another attempt in vain, and they started to get even more distant from his original family. As some people might think that the aftermath of those two small children might have been barbaric, but by god’s grace, they paved their way into an orphanage from where they were later adopted by an Australian couple. Saroo was adamant on finding his way back to his family and later started to trace his way out when he became an adult. The character of Saroo has been portrayed by the very talented Dev Patel (also acted in many Hollywood Movies) who has made the audience’s eyes moist with his attachment to the character which was reflected in his acting.

Even the actual person that the story is based on commented on how the movie is definitely an actual representation of his life except for maybe a few shots here and there. The movie later revolves around the ways that Saroo finds to relocate his family whom he separated from in India. With the help of technology and navigation, he and his brother traced their way back to their family from where the movie takes off. The audience who watched the movie commented on how the story is something that is totally off the charts and has real emotions involved in them. The story is not a sob story of a separation gone wrong but a real life narration of separation and how they found their way back home even after years. The movie has won a number of nominations for the Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and even Best Screenplay and definitely worthy of each of the specified nominations even though they didn’t end up winning any.
